A version of the game Eggzy by Raspberry Pi Ltd.’s book “Code the Classics Volume 2” with additional features and primary aim to run on RISC OS.

How to Play

A timer at the top of the screen counts down and you must collect gems to gain additional time and survive as long as possible. When all the gems in a level have been collected, a door at the right-hand side of the screen opens, allowing access to the next level.

As well as having a basic jump ability, you can also dash, wall-slide and wall-jump.

In some levels you will encounter enemies. If you collide with an enemy you’ll be hurt, fall out of the level and respawn at the level’s start point. You have infinite lives, but getting hit will cause you to lose valuable time. The enemies can be destroyed by jumping on their heads, which also gives a three second bonus. Some enemies take multiple hits to destroy.

When you have gone through all the levels, the game loops back to the first level, but the difficulty level is increased. Gems give less additional time and there are more enemies to avoid.

At the end of a game the path and time taken through the game are saved. Next time you start the game a “ghost” is shown, allowing you to race against your previous selves.

Scoring

The amount of time in seconds you have left is shown top middle of the screen. You can gain additional time by collecting gems and killing enemies.

RISC OS

The game has been tested on Raspberry Pi 2, RPCEmu 0.9.5, Raspberry Pi 4 with RISC OS 5.30/5.31, Python3.8 and Pygame 1.9.6. The game is expected to run on other RISC OS 5 platforms as well, but this has not yet been tested. RPi 4, similar hardware or better is recommended for best performance.
