About

A version of the game Beatstreets by Raspberry Pi Ltd.’s book “Code the Classics Volume 2” with additional features and primary aim to run on RISC OS.

How to Play

Move your way from left to right through the streets encountering wave after wave of criminals. To fight the criminals a variety of moves is available to you, including fist punches, kicks, flying kicks and elbow punches. Once a wave is defeated you will be able to progress which is shown on screen by a blinking green arrow pointing to the right.

Objects you find can also be picked up and used against your enemies. A barrel can be thrown to overthrow enemies and sticks and whips can be used to hit enemies. Sticks and whips can be used a limited number of times.

At one point you will also encounter portals from which enemies can appear in quick succession. Watch out and make sure to destroy a portal quickly as not to be overwhelmed by enemies.

Keep an eye on your health and fighting stamina which are shown in the top left and top right of the screen respectively.

Scoring

The number of points you have scored is shown top middle of the screen. You can gain additional health and lives by picking them up during play.

RISC OS

The game has been tested on Raspberry Pi 2, RPCEmu 0.9.5, Raspberry Pi 4 with RISC OS 5.30/5.31, Python3.8 and Pygame 1.9.6. The game is expected to run on other RISC OS 5 platforms as well, but this has not yet been tested. RPi 4, similar hardware or better is recommended for best performance.
